Recently, the law firm LawWin announced that it has executed a strategic cooperation agreement (전략적 업무협약)
with Advocacia Internacional George Cunha, a law firm located in Sao Paolo, Brazil, as of October 27.

Through this agreement, LawWin will be able to provide quick and efficient legal services to potential clients,
including Korean companies (국내기업) as they attempt to expand into the Central and South American region,
people seeking to immigrate to Brazil through investment (브라질 투자이민자)
and overseas Koreans (재외동포 한인 이민자) already residing in Brazil.

Lee, Seung-woo (Jacob Lee), the Managing Partner of LawWin

Lee Seungwoo, the managing partner of Law Firm LawWin, explained that
“Brazil is rapidly developing into an economic powerhouse,
and the Korean government has been making inroads
into implementing cooperative projects by establishing various groups with Brazil,
such as the Korea-Brazil Industry Cooperation Committee,
Resources Cooperation Committee, IT Cooperation Committee, etc., in variety of industrial areas,
including trade (무역), investment (투자), resources • energy (자원•에너지) ,
technology (기술), education (교육) and agriculture (농업), etc.

We expect to be able to provide extensive legal services through this MOU
as the mid-to-small-sized enterprises are attempting to expand the opportunities to enter Brazil.”

George Cunha, the Representative Lawyer

George Cunha, a law firm located in Sao Paolo, Brazil, is headed by George Cunha,
and is known as a local law firm with rich experience in dealing with a variety of international cases
through executing MOUs with law offices and law firms from 22 countries
(Japan, India, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Malta, Cyprus, Ukraine, etc.)
and through a partnership with AMCHAM
– American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil (브라질 주재 미국상공회의소),
Russian-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (러시아•브라질 상공회의소)
and the Italo-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (이탈리아•브라질 상공회의소), etc.

Expected to Serve as a Bridge
in Promoting the Globalization of Korea’s Expert
and Advanced Legal Services

The administrative systems of Central and South American countries, including Brazil, are quite complex.
Yet, any related information remains entirely insufficient, and understanding and applying the system,
including the legal system is extremely difficult because, unlike Korea, they follow a federal legal system.
These difficulties are considered to be the main reason behind the slow pace of cooperative projects, etc.
between Korea and Brazil, despite government efforts.

Therefore, LawWin executed a strategic cooperation agreement (MOU) with George Cunha,
a Brazilian law firm with experience in diverse international cases through an active business exchange with law firms
and the chamber of commerce, etc. from, not only Latin American countries,
but also with European and Asian countries, in order to provide more proactive legal services
and assist in harmonious economic activities between Korea and Brazil.
What follows is the detailed cooperation strategy of the MOU:

+ Interchange of personnel, such as professionals
+ Implement workshops and seminars and joint research on the various legal interpretations of Korea and Brazil
+ Legal consultation for foreign direct investment in Brazil and other Central and South American countries
+ Legal advice on Korean law for overseas Koreans currently residing in Brazil
+ Advice on investment activities in Korea for Brazilians

Brazil is a country with a population of approximately 211 million
and is the 5th largest land area at 85 times the area of Korea.
It borders with 10 countries in Central and South America,
except for Chile and Ecuador, and is a main player in Latin America,
contributing more than 30% of the entire South American economy.

In that respect, it is assessed as a country with infinite growth potential.

Lee Seungwoo, stated that
“through the strategic cooperation agreement with George Cunha,
a prominent global law firm in Brazil, LawWin is planning on conducting research
on the different tax and tariff policies of Korea and Brazil,”
“as well as helping Korean companies to enter Brazilian and other Central and South American countries
based on our understanding of the different legal systems
existing between the states in Brazil and diverse cultural characteristics.”

Moreover, “the firm is planning to serve as a bridge in promoting the globalization of the expert
and advanced legal services of Korea by expanding the network with overseas Koreans currently residing in Brazil.”

In the meantime, due to the prolonged continuation of COVID-19,
LawWin is actively conducting non-face-to-face consultation services through using Zoom,
a videotelephony software program, for the benefit of the clients
located in Central and South American countries.
