Illegal Parking and Stopping
Some people especially foreigners are not aware of
the regulation of illegl parking and stopping.
Here is a guide and information
to avoid negative circumstances.
What is Parking and Stop?
According to Road Traffic Act article 2(Definition) section 24,
According to Road Traffic Act article 2(Definition) section 24,
"Parking" means keeping any motor vehicle in a parked state
because the motor vehicle awaits passengers, is being loaded with cargo,
or is broken down, etc., or its driver is unable to immedately drive the motor vehicle
because he or she has left the relevant motor vehicle
"Stop" means bringing any motor vehicle to a stationary sate
for up to five minutes (5분), other than parking.
What are the lines for parking and stopping?

which line you can park and stop.
What specific places are prohibited
from stopping or parking a motor vehicle?
1. an intersection (교차로), crosswalk (횡단보도), road crossing (건널목),
or the sidewalk of a road divided into a sidewalk and a roadway.
2. a place located within five meters (5분) from the edge of an intersection (교차로의 가장자리)
or the corner of a road (도로의 모퉁이).
3. a place located within 10 meters from any side of a safety zone (안전지대의 사방으로부터)
on a road marked with a safety zone.
4. a place located within 10 meters from where any pilar, board, or line (기둥이나 표지판 또는 선)
indicating a bus stop is located or marked.
**the same shall not apply where any bus driver stops or parks a bus
in order for passengers to board or alight from the bus
at any bus stop located along the service route during service hours.
5. a place located within 10 meters from the edge of a road crossing or crosswalk..
6. a place located within 5 meters from a fire extinguishing water supply system (소방용수시설)
or emergency fire-fighting equipment (비상소화장치) is installed.
7. a place designated by the commissioner of a district police agency as being necessary to prevent danger
on the road and ensure the safety and thesmoothflow of traffic of the road.

Additionally, there are 4 places where drivers of motor vehicle
shall not park for the safety purpose.
1. a fire hydrant (소화전) located
within 5 meters
2. a corner of an intersection (교차로 모퉁이) within 5 meters
3. a bus stop (버스정류소) located within 5 meters
4. on the crosswalk(횡단보도)

Once you have violated the parking and stopping regulation,
you shall pay administrative fines.
